Glastonbury Festival 2008

We finally made it to Glastonbury and we made it with Jones!!! It was amazing!

For those of you who might not know about Glastonbury, it is considered the music festival of all festivals in Europe and probably the world. It is legendary for having the best bands, comedy, crafts, activism, and tons and tons of mud. An estimated 170,000 people descend on Pilton, Somerset to live in a tented village of the arts for 4 days. Despite taking place at the end of June, the festival always has to endure a period of torrential rain which turns the farm into a wild mud slide. Rubber boots (wellies as they're known here) and baby wipes are essential along with waterproof jackets and ear protectors.

Angus and I had wanted to go to Glasto for years - even before we lived in the UK - and every year it had sold out in a matter of minutes. But, this year it didn't. This was due to the 'scandal' of rapper Jay-Z headlining the mainstage on the Saturday. A bunch of crusty, brit-rock, indie purists thought having hip hop at Glato was sacrilege. We thought otherwise and were able to buy their tickets - yay for us and yay for Jay-Z!

It was such a incredible experience that we both feel like we're now part of a special club.

Jones seemed to love it too! He kicked his legs and danced to the music, slept with his earphones on, helped us play the Group Hug stage, rolled around in the tent with wild abandon, and ruled the kids field. Despite some people saying we were mad to go with a baby, it ended up being an excellent family vacation and one we hope to do again next year.

We saw sooooo many bands I can't even remember all of them, but Elbow and Neil Diamond were two of the highlights. Oh, and Jay-Z kicked bum!
