We had a party for J-man on the 19th of September and the day was perfect: really warm and sunny with Jones so full of happiness he could have floated away! I was actually pretty emotional about the whole thing; realizing that his first birthday was really more of a celebration of our keeping him alive and healthy, while his second was clearly a celebration of and for him. His joy was contagious and so sincere! He kept saying "Haaa birrday" and singing the last phrase of 'Happy Birthday' to himself: "ha la la toooo yeeeewww". He now thinks anything wrapped, in anything, is clearly for him.
The theme was Polkabats which is from J's favourite, favourite book 'Polkabats and Octopus Slacks' by the totally whack and totally genius Calef Brown. I relished making the Polkabat cake, especially the black turds.
I didn't take any photos of the party myself because of hosting the festivities and whatnot, but, *whoop, whoop*, my friend and super-stellar photographer Marie-Anne did and gave us these photos as a gift! She totally kicks some serious ass, so it is a total result for us.
